About DOT Physicals
The DOT and the FMCSA require CMV drivers to complete and pass a periodic DOT physical in order to maintain a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL). The regulations are intended for the public’s safety and must be performed by a certified medical examiner or physician’s assistant. With Rolln’Ready, you can get fast and effective DOT physicals that ensure your drivers meet all DOT guidelines.
What’s included in a DOT physical?
A driver’s ability to safely operate a commercial motor vehicle is impacted by his/her mental, emotional, and physical health. The DOT physical includes a review of past medical history and medications as well as a comprehensive physical including BMI, vision, hearing, color-blindness tests. A DOT health card or medical examiner’s certificate is issued and placed in the national data bank once the comprehensive physical examination is successfully completed.
Who falls under the DOT physical?
If any of the following apply to you, then you are required to complete a DOT physical:
- You will be transporting hazardous materials that require the vehicle you are driving to be placarded
- You will operate a vehicle such as a bus which is designed to carry more than 15 passengers or you are compensated to operate a vehicle that is designed to carry more than 8 passengers
- You will be operating a vehicle with a gross weight, gross vehicle weight rating , or gross combination weight rating of 10,001 pounds or more
